Speaker:  Leon Lederman, Fermilab

Title:   Progress and the lack thereof in the reform of US science education (Neither have we found Higgs nor the Theory of Everything!)

Abstract:   We have been active for about 10 years in trying to modernize the ~100 year old science curricula of US high schools. This is a dramatic illustration of invariance of the “system” to transformations from the 19th to the 21st century. Whenever we have a symmetry, Noether’s Theorem tells us we can be sure that the mediocrity is conserved as is the popular ignorance of how science works. We will detail efforts to break the symmetry, but it will not be spontaneous.
