Title:   Precision Measurement of the Gravitational Constant

Abstract:   Newton's constant, G, is one of the most fundamental and universal constants in nature. Yet its accepted value is far more uncertain than that of any of the other physical constants. We have developed a new method based on a torsion balance built on a slowly rotating turntable. Our instrument invokes many new and remarkable features and tricks that enabled us to measure G with unprecedented precision. Using our value of G we are able to determine the mass of the Earth more precisely.

Undergraduate students will also enjoy attending the talk.
