Title: Tabletop Probes for TeV Physics: Searches for Electric Dipole Moments of Elementary Particles

Abstract: Extensions to the Standard Model typically include both new heavy particles, and new mechanisms for CP violation. These underlying phenomena--via radiative corrections--can give rise to electric dipole moments (EDMs) of elementary particles such as the electron. I will describe tabletop-scale experiments that are used to search for these effects in atoms and molecules. Present experiments are already sensitive to new physics at the TeV scale, and new methods under development (including our ongoing search for the electron EDM) could extend this range dramatically. Such experiments could be among the first to provide evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model.
