These four 'structured' labs are meant to introduce you to the tools (analysis software, motion detectors, simulation software, movie analysis) you will need to carry out your projects.

Lab Partners

Lab work should be done with a partner. Partners can collaborate on reports.

Lab Reports

Please read these very specific guidelines for your Honors P221 lab reports. Your lab grades will depend solely on the lab report you turn in: it should be written with the care you would give any final paper. It is important to understand the concepts of random errors and systematic errors in doing experiments. We will be discussing errors in more detail throughout the semester [For a good reference, see Prof. Alex Dzierba's notes on error analysis].

Lab Notebook

You should buy a lab notebook and use it throughout the semester. I recommend getting a bound quadrille (pages look like graph paper). Use this to record what you did, make sketches and record data. You will not have to turn this notebook in for grading (we will use your written reports) but you will find it very helpful to carefully and systematically keep your notebook up to date.
