#10013: Wireless transformer, Type R, 0.5 kW
Thordarson Electric MFG Co., ca. 1910

These high-voltage transformers were commonly used in amateur spark stations. The primary is keyed via the AC line and the secondary to the closed circuit with a charging condenser and a rotary spark gap. For a 0.5 kW transformer, the secondary voltage is typically 12 kV. The sliding section moves a portion of the core in and out for adjusting the curren capability and resulting power output. The Type R sold for $21 in 1917.
