Day Three

·      Display graphs of the data provided that students created on day two.  Use the graphs to address the following questions:

What does the data say about cosmic rays?

What graphic representation best communicates the information?

How do the graphs that the students produced compare to the graphs found in the various web sites?

What are the graphing elements are essential to communicate the information in the graphs of the data?

·      Brainstorm.  What questions could be answered with data from our cosmic telescope if the experiment were properly designed?  While the measurement capability of the cosmic telescope will remain a limiting concern, simple modifications and changes to the placement are possible.

Create teams of 3 to 5 per team to design experiments that could address the questions provided in the brainstorm activity.  Each team would create a poster or power point presentation that describes the experiment and how the data would provide a conclusion regarding the experimental questions.   The presentation must address the following issues:

Statement of the question.

Experimental design

Data to be recorded.

Data treatment

Anticipated problems or concerns
