IU Summer REU Research Projects

Projects are located at Swain Hall West, the home of the Deparment of Physics or the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility.

Projects based at Swain Hall Projects based at IUCF
  • Astrophysics
The Astrophysics group research efforts include investigations of neutrino oscillations (MINOS) and dark energy (SNAP).
  • Biophysics
The Biophysics group is currently investigating neurophysics, development, and models of cellular communication.
  • Condensed Matter Physics
The Condensed Matter group focuses on novel materials, the behavior of waves in artificial structures and disordered materials as well as uses of neutrons for materials research (LENS).
  • Elementary Particle Theory
The Theory group is currently focused on lattice guage calculations of QCD, violations of fundamental symmetries such as CPT, and new frontiers of particle physics.
  • Elementary Particle Experiment
Members of the High Energy group are playing key roles in the D0 collaboration at Fermilab and ATLAS at CERN, and leading the GlueX/Hall D collaboration at Jefferson National Lab.
  • Accelerator Physics
The Accelerator physics research program of S.Y. Lee investigates physics crucial to the improvement of current and future particle accelerators.
  • Low Energy Neutron Source (LENS)
LENS is developing a neutron source for use in materials science, biophysics, neutron instrumentation, and fundamental research.
  • Nuclear Chemistry
The Nuclear Chemistry group studies heavy-ion reaction dynamics at intermediate energy.
  • Nuclear Physics Experiment
The Nuclear Experimental group is currently studying fundamental neutron physics, neutron instrumentation, and neutrino oscillations in addition to playing a major role in the STAR collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Lab.
  • Nuclear Physics Theory
The Nuclear Theory group conducts a broad range of studies of models of nuclear structure and dynamics.
  • Radiation Effects
The Radiation Applications group studies the effects of medium energy protons and neutrons for uses in medical physics and materials research.
